Three Wood County Hospital nurses received the 2015 Nurse Excellence Award as part of the hospital’s National Nurses Week observance. The winners were: Jodie Wint, RN in the Intensive Care Unit for the Traditional Nurse category; Christine Wulff, RN in the Emergency Department for the Non-Traditional nurse category; and Lori Tuck, RN, Director of MedicalSurgical Departments in the Leadership category.

“Nursing excellence incorporates and encompasses the values of clinical care, teamwork, customer service, leadership, patient advocacy and patient and family education,” said Marlene Jett, RN, co-chair of the committee which spearheaded the award selection. “This year we took this vision of a nurse into consideration and chose to recognize not only the traditional nurse, but the non-traditional nurse and the nurse in a leadership position.”

Bowling Green resident Jodie Wint has worked at Wood County Hospital for the past three years. She began her nursing career in 1986 and has been an intensie care nurse for more than half of her career. “I take much pride in my chosen profession and nothing feels better than taking care of a critically ill patient and then seeing them get well,” she said.

Christine Wulff has worked at WCH for 33 years and currently works in the Emergency Department with the Clinical Information system.

One of Wulff’s nominations read, Christine is a “get er done’ kind of nurse. Always prepared, always professional and knowledgeable, she is also a cheerleader, a teacher, a coach and a boos — instructing and encouraging us to keep trying.

When speaking about being a nurse, Wulff says, “if I am able to help a patient feel better or help a co-worker make his or her job easier I feel like I have done what I was meant to do.”

Lori Tuck has worked at Wood County Hospital in a variety of departments since 1982.“It has been over 30 years that I have had the honor to be called a nurse, says Tuck. I have always felt it is a privilege and honor to be a nurse and a nursing director.”

Award winners will recweive an embroidered hospital logo jacket and their names will be engraved and placed on the Nurse Excellence plaque located in the lobby.
