The Wood County Hospital Guild Celebrates 60 Years of Service

An organization of more than 600 men and women committed to the mission of Wood County Hospital and the patients it serves marked its remarkable 60th anniversary on March 17, 2014.

Since its formation the Guild has donated more than $1 million dollars to the hospital through equipment purchases, room and department renovations, material acquisitions to help establish new programs and many other items that enhance the overall patient experience.

At yesterday’s Get Your Green On event at the hospital that celebrated the Guild’s founding, past Guild presidents were recognized along with Norma Barr and Mary Myers Fuelber, two members who helped establish the organization six decades ago.

Department heads shared their stories of how the Guild has enriched their areas. For example, Sue Johnson, Obstetrics Department Director showed the special car seats for premature babies; Jane Graffin, Clinical Nutrition Manager discussed the various ways that the Guild has provided funds for educational materials and screening equipment for the Diabetes Education. Deb Busdeker, Director of the Wellness Department bragged about its van that supports education to school children, and visits area businesses for wellness screenings. Cheryl Lance from the Women’s Center gave tours of the facility. The gentlemen who accompanied their wives on the tours joked that it was the only time they would be allowed in the Center. The Guild sponsored the construction of the Women’s Center which opened in 2010.

The special celebratory evening culminated with the announcement by Guild president Scotty Huntington that the Guild has committed $100,000 to the new Cancer Care Center at Wood County Hospital, proving that they are as generous and committed as ever to the health of the community.
