Stronger Together: How Local Experts Are Joining Forces for Mental Health in Bowling Green
In a time when mental health conversations are more important than ever, two trusted voices in Bowling Green are teaming up to make sure support is within reach for anyone who needs it.
In the latest episode of Health Matters, Dr. Benjamin Forrester, psychiatrist at Falcon Health Center, and Dr. Eric Baltrinic, director of the BGSU Counseling Center, discuss how their organizations are working together to meet the evolving mental health needs of both students and the broader community.
“We’re seeing rising levels of stress, anxiety, and burnout—not just on campus, but across Bowling Green,” said Dr. Baltrinic. “That’s why it’s so important for local providers to collaborate and offer support that meets people where they are.”
Falcon Health Center serves both the student population and residents of Bowling Green, offering therapy and psychiatric services in a setting that’s convenient, familiar, and deeply connected to the community. Meanwhile, the BGSU Counseling Center provides free resources and immediate walk-in services for students, many of whom are also part of the larger Bowling Green family.
The two leaders emphasized how collaboration, not competition, is what drives effective mental health care in smaller communities.
“We don’t have to send people far away anymore,” said Dr. Forrester. “We’ve got trusted providers right here in town—whether someone needs short-term counseling, medication management, or help navigating a tough situation.”
They also shed light on common warning signs that someone might need support, from social withdrawal to sleep changes or persistent stress. And they address the lingering stigma that still keeps many from reaching out.
“You don’t have to wait until things get bad,” said Dr. Baltrinic. “Mental health care isn’t about being broken—it’s about being human.”
