Pharmacists Rebekah D. and Susan M. Recognized as the April 2025 WOW Award Winners
The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Susan Miller and Rebekah Dumke, WCH Pharmacists, were selected as the April 2025 WOW awards winners for their compassion and for going the extra mile for a fellow staff member.
In April, a WCH employee realized their child was down to the last dose of their daily medication. The prescription had been filled, but in the rush of the week, they had forgotten to pick it up at Falcon Health Center. By Sunday morning, the effects of the missed dose were already noticeable, and the parent grew increasingly concerned.
Not knowing what to do, the employee reached out to the Wood County Hospital Pharmacy and was connected with Rebekah, who listened with empathy and quickly stepped in to assist. Although the prescription was ready, it was at FHC—not WCH—and not something the hospital pharmacy typically stocked.
Rather than stopping there, Rebekah teamed up with Susan, and once they had caught up on their responsibilities at the hospital, they personally went to FHC to retrieve the medication and get it to the employee. They understood how important it was to prevent any more missing doses.
The employee was deeply moved by their kindness and willingness to go above and beyond. It's a moment of compassion and teamwork they’ll never forget.
Rebekah, a native of Luckey, Ohio, earned her PharmD from Ohio Northern University. She has been a valued member of Wood County Hospital for 10 years, drawn by the people and strong sense of community. Throughout her time at both the Wood County Hospital Pharmacy and Falcon Health Center Pharmacy, Rebekah has remained committed to treating every person as an individual—with the same care and respect she would want for her own loved ones.
Susan, a graduate from The Ohio State University, has been a valued part of WCH for 35 years. Before becoming a full-time pharmacist here, she started as a summer intern in the pharmacy department. She said it was the hospital's warm, family-like atmosphere that brought her here. Outside of work, Susan's interests include dogs and reading.
We feel lucky to have both Susan and Rebekah as part of our outstanding Pharmacy team and all they do!
