February WOW Award Winner – Andrea Winn
The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Andrea Winn, Laboratory Medical Technologist, was selected as the February WOW award winner for going above and beyond. When a teenage patient in the Emergency Department was required to have a negative COVID PCR test before being able to transfer to a behavioral health unit, Andrea stepped up to help. The patient had been boarded in the emergency department for several days, as the patient had previously tested positive. To ensure this patient’s test was able to get processed, Andrea held the running of the PCR tests until they could get the patient’s test to her. She also volunteered to stay late, running the test, to assure the patient could receive her results and get the transfer she needed.
Andrea has been a part of the Wood County Hospital team for over a year and a half. In her role, Andrea’s primary duty is to perform RNA/DNA-based diagnostic testing on biological specimens. She shared the most rewarding part of her job has been the opportunity to assist in Wood County Hospital’s efforts of implementing new technologies, namely PCR testing, in response to the need for expanded access to covid testing during the pandemic.
Thank you, Andrea, for being an exceptional team player and supporting the needs of our patients.
