Celebrating Our 72 Anniversary
This month, We Celebrate Wood County Hospital’s 72nd anniversary.
Over the past 72 years, WCH has evolved and grown with technology continually advancing to best serve our community. Community members supported the founding of the hospital selling blankets, going door-to-door asking for donations, hold bazaars, and even selling a heifer to generate funds to give the hospital a solid start. In its first years, WCH had only 55 beds, 15 doctors, 40 nurses, one x-ray machine and around 100 employees. Surgeons performed everything from urology to C-sections to setting a hip.
Over the decades WCH has been a place where people find meaning and purpose with the values of the hospital – collaboration, integrity, respect, compassion, loyalty and excellence, being shown bright through tornados, blizzards, recessions, a pandemic and so much more.
Today we have a staff of over 800 and 250 physicians. We are grateful for the visionary community leaders who believed in the value of quality healthcare close to home and never gave up pushing for our hospital.
