Amanda Sattler Awarded 2012 Nurse Excellence Award
Amanda Sattler, registered nurse at Wood County Hospital received the 2012 Wood County Hospital Nurse Excellence Award on May 7, 2012.
Sattler, 25, from Rudolph, Ohio has worked at Wood County Hospital for eight years, the past four as a registered nurse. She began her career at WCH as a school aide. Additionally, she served at the hospital in a variety of capacities including unit secretary and Certified Nurse Technician.
The Nurse Excellence Award is given annually during National Nurses Week to a nurse who is nominated by her peers, manager or a physician.
Nominees must exhibit excellence in nursing related to clinical care, teamwork, customer service, management, leadership, mentoring, patient advocacy, communication or patient and family education.
“We look for someone who combines qualities of compassion, caring and competence that make them an excellent all around nurse,” said Carole Matthews, Vice President of Patient Care Services.
“Being an excellent nurse requires that you consistantly do whatever it takes for the benefit of your patient,” said Sattler.
Sattler was nominated by two of her peers on 2-East who noted the care and compassion she shows her patients. “She is very good at looking beyond the obvious and looking at the patient as a whole,” said Tamara Hosley. “Mandy shows amazing team work and is always willing to help out whenever she is able.”
“Kathy Slee, who also nominated Sattler said, “I have been employed here for 36 years and I can say without a doubt that this young lady goes above and beyond her duties…The special care and attention she gives to her patients is exceptional. Mandy’s work ethic is beyond compare. She is truly a giver, always helping her co-workers and other employees. She represents Wood County hsopital with excellence.”
Ten nurses were also nominated for the Nurse Excellence Award, they are: Lisa Barndt, Andrea Casillas, Terry Gundy, Mary Jacoby, Dawn Mason, Juanita Matthews, Dawn Miller, Carole Mourdock, Dinese Schlea and Ali Shawver.
