Description

Clinical dietitians provide consulting and educational services to inpatients of all ages. Outpatient nutritional referrals can be made by your physician which allows us to bill your insurance company. However, you can see an outpatient dietitian without a referral. Our dietitians are members of the American Dietetic Association (www.eatright.org).

Nutrition Services at Wood County Hospital offers a wide variety of established and customizable nutrition programs for individuals and groups. Program offerings include: weight loss, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), food allergies, diabetes management, childhood nutrition and many others.

Additional Information

Diabetes Education Program

The Diabetes Education program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association (Medicare Certified). Patients are instructed on modified diets, blood glucose monitoring, management tools, nutrition and meal planning, physical activity planning, medications, self-care do’s and don'ts, stress management, and mental wellness. Education is also available for pregnant women with gestational diabetes.

The health care team includes a physician, nurse educator and dietitian. The keys to good diabetes management are enlisting the help of your team and working together to reach your goals.

The program consists of a one hour assessment and a series of classes. The classes are offered both during daytime and evening hours.

A physician referral is required, which can be faxed to (419) 354-8682. Many insurances cover the cost of education and patient counseling. Patients are asked to contact their plans to determine coverage and whether prior authorization is required.
