Pediatric Therapy
WCH Pediatric Therapy offers a multidisciplinary approach to infant, children, and adolescents with developmental, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal disorders.
Expertise is available in Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Pathology. Our staff are all professionals who are certified and/or licensed and have specialized training in pediatrics. The overall goal is to optimize the child’s and family’s capacity to function in their environments by designing specific programs customized to his or her unique needs. Specialists from PT, OT, and Speech Therapy join together in a coordinated program of care.
Physical Therapy
· Our PT staff helps patients develop or restore muscle strength and endurance needed for daily living. Therapists use positive, age appropriate activities to focus on balance, coordination, gross motor function, muscle and joint flexibility, and other areas as needed.
Occupational Therapy
· Our OT staff provides treatment to help individuals achieve independence in all areas of their lives. Occupational therapists assist people in developing "skills for the job of living" that are necessary for an independent and satisfying life.
Speech Therapy
· Our Speech Therapists address issues of articulation, language, voice resonance, fluency, auditory retraining, feeding, and swallowing dysfunction.

· Sensory Integration
Sensory experiences include touch, movement, body awareness, sight, sound, and the pull of gravity. The process of the brain organizing and interpreting this information is called sensory integration provides a crucial foundation for complex learning and behavior, but for some children sensory integration does not develop as efficiently as it should and therapy is recommended.
· Interactive Metronome©
Interactive Metronome© is an effective therapy tool in the areas of timing, motor planning, and sequencing of thoughts.
· DIR/Floortime Approach
The DIR (Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship Based) Floortime approach is a comprehensive framework for understaiding and treating children challenged by autism spectrum and related disorders.
· Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic Therapy combines the benefits of physical therapy and occupational therapy with the advantages of warm-water exercise. Working in the warm-water environment, patients discover a freedom of movement that allows them to progress and accomplish musch more than they often can in land-based therapy.
· Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle non-invasive therapy used to detect and correct imbalance in the craniosacral system, which may be the cause of sensory, motor, or neurological dysfunction.
· The Listening Program© and Therapeutic Listening©
The Listening Program ® was designed to help balance, strengthen, and/or restore our ability to listen to and process sounds across the full auditory spectrum. This can result in striking improvements across the human continuum, from academic performance to emotional balance. Therapeutic Listening® is an evidence-backed protocol that combines a sound-based intervention with sensory integrative activities to create a comprehensive Therapeutic Listening can impact sensory modulation, attention, behavior, postural organization, and speech and language difficulties. Listening is a function of the entire brain; when we listen, we listen with the whole body.
· Specialized Speech Programs
Our Speech and Language Pathologists offer a variety of specialized programs:
§ WASP© - The Word Association for Syllable Perception assesses a child’s perception of English phonemes using simple picture cards and a diagnostic scoring system.
§ PECS© - The Picture Exchange Communication System is a unique augmentative/alternate training program that teaches children and adults with autism and communication deficits to initiate communication.
§ ABA© - The Applied Behavioral Analysis approach teaches social, motor, and verbal behaviors as well as reasoning skills to individuals with autism. It teaches theses skills through use of careful behavioral observations and positive reinforcement or prompting to teach each step of behavior.
§ Kaufman Speech Praxis Treatment – It is a way of teaching children with apraxia of speech the easiest way of saying words until they have motor-speech coordination.
Sports Medicine/Athletic Training
Programs:
· Area High School Athletic Training Coverage
- WCH provides athletic training coverage to Bowling Green HS, Eastwood HS, and Elmwood HS. Our athletic trainers provide injury prevention, injury treatment, and injury rehabilitation to all junior varsity and varsity athletes.
- Sports Trauma Clinic
- During the school year, WCH offers a free sports trauma clinic for scholastic athletes. The clinic will be open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month (except holiday weekends). The clinics are held between 8:30a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Injured athletes are evaluated by a sports medicine physician and athletic trainer.
- Golf Training Program
- GTP is a comprehensive exercise program for golfers to improve their golf game and reduce risk of injuries. GTP will be developed to fit each golfer’s needs for golf fitness. The exercise program will include a warm-up, stretching exercises, core stabilization exercises, and strengthening exercises. Each session will last approximately 1 hour. An instructor will supervise each participant to ensure proper form, safety, and motivation throughout the program. The program meets for eight, 45-minute sessions tailored to your schedule. - Sports Performance Training
- Sports Performance Training is a summer program for teens ages 12 and older. It will be designed around your schedule. Athletes will be put together in small groups for 12 hour long sessions. Each athlete will have their skills evaluated and a program will be designed to help take your performance skills to the max. The performance training will include:
- Weight Training
- Flexibility
- Core Conditioning
- Plyometrics/Jump Training
- Strengthening with Stretch/Flex Bands

- Coaches Clinic
- The Coaches Clinic is designed for coaches of scholastic youth who need to receive their Pupil Activity Permit to supervise extracurricular activities. Participants will receive a three-year permit. Online registration is required.
- Cost of the program is $30.00 per person.
