October – Breast Cancer Screening

This October, during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Wood County Hospital encourages women of all ages to make sure they are up to date on breast cancer screenings. 

A high-quality mammogram plus a clinical breast exam, an exam done by your doctor, is the most effective way to detect breast cancer early. Finding breast cancer early significantly improves a woman’s chances for successful treatment. This is especially important considering that about one in eight women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.

If you are age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them.

If you are age 50 to 74, get mammograms every two years. You may also choose to get them more often. Talk to your doctor to decide what’s best for you.

You can depend on Wood County Hospital for timely breast cancer screening and diagnosis. Through our fast track program, a biopsy is completed within 48 hours of recommendation by a radiologist following a mammogram. Our goal is to alleviate anxiety and expedite treatment should it be needed.
