February 2025 WOW Award Winner - Nancy Messenger

The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Nancy Messenger, Welcome Center Coordinator, was selected as the February 2025 WOW award winner for going above and beyond.

This winter, during a week of freezing weather, a couple came to Wood County Hospital in desperate need—they had no home, no car and no money. Without hesitation, Nancy welcomed them into the Gift Shop waiting area to warm up and rest. She then reached out to our Community Health and Wellness team to find assistance. Going a step further, Nancy took one of them to the café and bought them a meal while they waited.

Nancy’s quick action and compassion made a real difference. She saw a need and responded immediately, showing what it means to care for our community. As a dedicated WCH team member for 32 years, Nancy began her career as an occupational therapist before transitioning to the Welcome Center and Lifeline. She values the strong sense of community at WCH and takes pride in helping patients and families through their healthcare journeys. Outside of work, Nancy enjoys time with family and friends, finding joy in life’s simple moments.
